Naming your pharmacy business is an important business decision to take. Some people may ask, “what is in a name? Does the colour black change because it is called a different name?” well, the colour doesn’t change but in business and in many important issues of life, a name makes a lot of difference.

A name is absolutely important when it comes to business, both in making a solid first impression and developing long-term branding. Why is it so important? If your customers cannot remember your business name, find it offensive, or even confusing, your business will suffer.

A company name seems to last forever unless it is changed. When starting a new company, take the time to think through some of the issues below and choose a name that distinguishes your business from the competition. Otherwise, even with the best idea or invention, your customers may have a difficult time finding your business in an increasingly crowded marketplace.   1. Set yourself apart: The name of your pharmacy should be unique to you. Find out if there are other businesses using your proposed name so as to avoid confusion. Making your name unique will help your branding effort immensely. You don’t your business name sounding like your competition or any other business. Sounding too much like a competitor can have consequences including promoting that other business.
  2. Consider Word-of-Mouth Marketing: Word-of-mouth is a powerful marketing tool. When you choose a name, it should be short and simple and easy for customers to remember. Avoid long and complicated names. If your pharmacy name is easy to remember, your customer can easily refer to it as they recommend it to other people.
  3. Pronunciation: One factor that can help your name to be easily remembered is when the pronunciation is not difficult. Your pharmacy name should be easily pronounced. Pick a name that looks and sounds attractive on the phone, on the radio, on your letterhead, and on your publications. The name needs to sound good when it’s said aloud. Avoid jaw-breaking names.
  4. Easy to Spell: Spelling is important in business name ideas so customers will not only remember it, but also reference it in. A name may sound well but is it easy to spell. Consider your customers as having just basic education, your name should easy for them to spell.  Avoid using a “K” in place of a “Q” or a “Ph” in place of an “F”.   5. Consider Growth: You may want to use your family name or the name of your town or area but what happens when you have grown large and want to sell off the business or expand to other locations. You should consider how appropriate your name will be when your business grows big and is expanding.
  6. Make It Neutral: In our society today some factors such as religion, culture, politics, and regions are affecting how customers view some businesses. It will serve you well if your pharmacy name is neutral and does not show any bias to these factors
